Mr Frog
This is my second idea that I will present to the current conceptualization assignment, I like this one better than the one with fish I think it is because it simpler in several aspects, specially in the plot, here it goes:
Pitch: A frog sitting at his pond when a fisher manage to toss a fishing fly next to him, the frog mistakingly thinks that its a real fly and attempts to eat it, it turns out to be a tug of war for the Frog in order to survive.
When it comes to the look for this idea, I’m still very much in the cartoony look world. But perhaps a bit more simplistic version than I presented for the first idea. Here everything
happens in one little scene, just a little corner in a larger pond. The world will be fairly simple. And colors, I’m thinking actually perhaps slightly “washed out” warm summer green on the surroundings, trying to create a more warm, a bit dry summer day. I suspect strong colors will make slightly tiresome to watch -perhaps- But I don’t know quite yet. As a frog, I’m thinking a bit more classical mid-sized frog, who of course is very flexible and his front legs works as arms when he needs to grab on to something – if he needs to use them. I can’t say I have found many related shorts to this idea. I found however a few interesting videos with frogs of course and this one.
Plot: A frog sitting on his usual rock close the edge of the pond, snapping life out of mid air, enjoying the insects. We see him relaxing catching two or three insects when a rather peculiar insect lands near him, very hairy. The frog however does not notice the line attached to it. A bit curious and laid-back , he shoots out his tongue, grabs it and as soon as he does that. The fly reveals itself to be a fishing fly! The fisherman (not shown) Now begins to pull the string, and it literately becomes a tug of war, where he have to fight for his tongue and life. Grabbing whatever he can, pushing his feet down into the rock, going back and forth. Suddenly the hook snaps off the tongue and “shoots” back in to the mouth. The frog quickly over his mouth with his hand and sits still for just a moment and then almost begins to cry, just when he spots another real insect flying by. Loosing his attention on the pain the quickly snaps the insect and eats it, enjoys it just as another insects comes into view, now he’s completely forgotten about the fishing fly. As he continues to enjoy life and eating insects another fishing fly lands near him, now this time a bit suspecting, raises an eyebrow and shrugs, ending the movie with him shooting his tongue out and catching his expression right after he realizes his mistake – again.
Here are some more inspirational pictures, there are plenty of interesting frog designs to look at :

I like the idea. Good to see that you specified the style, makes it easier for us to visualize it. I like that tug of war between the human and the frog, you can really get creative here and make lots of interesting moments. Have you given any thoughts of how long you think story will be? I like how simple you keep it. My guess this movie will be slightly above 1 minute and it seems like a perfect project for one or two students to take on. Very nice that you show your inspirational sources. The last video you posted, the fat from and the two small bully frogs. Would you consider making it in similar style to that or did you haven something different in mind?
Hi, thanks for the comments. My guess is that it will be a little less than one minute and, no I doubt it will be very similar style, but Not to far off.
Hi
I like your last movieoption here, nice idea about that frog. Only is a hook is sharp to get on the tongue to the frog. I would have used another thing then a fish flie there. Example many places here in asien poor people standing on bridges passing the rice fields and fishing frog with bred only as a bate, no hooks there. When the frog snap the bred they pull them up with fishing rods and eat the frog…. Maybe you can use some drame of this?
Have a nice day, Alf
Hey Alf! Thanks for taking a look at it.
I had no idea that they where fishing frogs like that down in Asia, sounds interesting. Sounds to me that when the frog takes a “bite” of the piece of bread, he eats it so fast that it kinda get stuck in his throat along side the fishing line?
The only main difference here is that the frog in my story is supposed to get hurt, and I am not quite sure if I could get the tug of war with the tongue, unless something was stuck in the tongue, cause the frog does not want to move from the rock! he wants to stay and relax and eat bugs! So when his tongue gets hooked he realizes that if he do not put up a fight he will get pulled away from the rock.
Thats his rock! Hehe..
I kinda like to play with “Stupidity” in my ideas, where lets say the frog do not learn from his first mistake, and repeats it. I feel it is easier to have an ending like this when its like a 60 second short film, enabling me to have a more amusing and simpler ending, so I do not have to worry that much about a conclusion, the viewer hopefully find it amusing.
